  • The schoolof Italian language was established in 1985, in the centre of Florence, withthe aim of providing high quality linguistic services toprivate people and multi-national companies in need to learn the basics as wellas to improve the Italian language up to the highest levels in little time. Thatis the reason why the Institute Galilei specializes in one-to-one and small groupcourses with max. 4 participants per class.

    After only a few years, the qualityof our courses, the reliability of the programs, and the rigorousattention to the individual and her/his linguistic needs allowed us to establish a reputation for meeting the needs of some of the leading companiesof the world, many of which have become our steady customers.

    Today, the school also offers one-to-oneand small group courses in Italian culture such as art historyItaliancooking, and drawing & painting (taught inItalian,English, and on request in other languages). These courses completethe services of the Institute Galilei allowing a practical and immediateapproachnot only to the Italian language but also to the main aspects ofthe Italian culture.

    ONE-TO-ONE & SMALL GROUP COURSES

    The Italian one-to-one and small group courses (max.4 students)enable the students to put the learned grammar structures directlyinto practiseas they assure a high degree of active participation atthe lesson.

    In fact, the experience showed us that the key factors forquickand in-depth results are a rigorous attention of the teacher toeachstudent, a studying program tailored to the individual linguisticneeds aswell as a continuous practise of the learnedstructures underthe guidance of an experienced teacher.

    In terms of results, this isthe reason why 1 week in one of our Italianone-to-one courses corresponds toapproximately 1 month in class with a regularsize group of students.     For those who plan to stay for several months in Florence and sohavemore time at their disposal for their Italian language studies, we'vecreatedthe "ItalianoInsieme"program (group courses with7-12 students per class).

    FLEXIBLESCHEDULES& WEEKEND CRASH COURSES

    All our Italian courses are offered all year round (forone-to-onecourses also during Christmas and Easter vacations). On request, thecourses canbe scheduled also during the weekend and holidays in order to takefulladvantage of the time at your disposal. For people who have time onlyduring aweekend, we offer the special weekend crash courses.

  • The school is located in down-town Florence,at only 5 minutes on foot from the Cathedrale (Duomo). 

  • EXCURSIONS IN TUSCANY AND ITALY

    Anyonecan join our tours. No particular requirements nor enrollment in our Italiancourses are requested to attend any of them. All excursions can be conducted inEnglish or Italian.

    Each excursion takes place every day.

    This private tour program to the mostnotable and beautiful sites in Tuscany and Italy, represents a naturalcontinuation of our Art History course outside Florence. It can also beconsidered just as a program of excursions by itself, for those who don't wantto participate in the Art History course or any other of our courses.

    This program of excursions is recommendedfor everyone who wishes to enjoy scenery while gaining a more complete view ofItalian historical beauties.

    Depending on the distance from Florence,some excursions last half day (4 hours) while others require a full day (7hours). For the price, please consult the table below.

    SIENA & MONTALCINO TOUR

    Siena and Montalcino are two of the mostfascinating towns in Tuscany. Siena is a Gothic pearl, perfectly crowned by itsoriginal walls with a Cathedral that is considered one of the most beautiful inItaly.

    Montalcino is the home of Brunello, one ofthe most famed and expensive Italian wines. Near Montalcino lies the Abbey ofSant'Antimo, the perfect "cathedral in the desert". This hugestructure lies in a field, far from any other constructions, and some of itscolumns are built with onyx, which light up when hit by sunlight.

    PISA & LUCCATOUR

    No descriptions are needed for thecelebrated Leaning Tower of Pisa and its marvelous square containing the Cathedral,the Baptistery and the Old Cemetery all of which contrast beautifully against asee of green grass.

    Lucca is famous for the Romanesque style,a period of art that came directly before the Gothic. The city is full ofchurches of incomparable beauty and is closed in by ancient walls surrounded bya moat.

    AREZZO &CORTONA TOUR

    Arezzo proudly holds one of the mostimportant cycles of frescoes of all time: the "History of the TrueCross" by Piero della Francesca. The frescoes have been recently restoredand can be seen as they were at the height of their splendor.

    Cortona lies on a hill overlooking LakeTrasimeno and offers visitors the chance to walk through its narrow Renaissancestreets among historic palaces and ancient buildings.

    VOLTERRA & SAN GIMIGNANOTOUR

    Most of the important periods of arthistory: Etruscan, Roman, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance have in some way lefttheir mark in Volterra. The city is famous for its alabaster quarries,workshops and for the works derived from this brilliant mineral.

    San Gimignano has also been called the NewYork of the Middle Ages, due to its forest of high towers, each one taller thanthe previous one, representing the never ending competition among the local,aristocratic families.

    PIENZA &MONTEPULCIANO TOUR

    Pienza was one of the first examples ofurban planning. Requested by Pope Pius II after whom it was named, Pienzademonstrates a classical simplicity in its buildings. The town is surrounded bya unique landscape which is a reminiscent of an ocean of green waves.

    Over the centuries, Montepulciano haspreserved its ancient structure. Below the town, in the open country, lies theChurch of San Biagio, a monumental complex which is one of the most perfectexamples of religious Renaissance architecture.

    PERUGIA &ASSISI TOUR

    Umbria is not only the greenest region ofItaly but also contains numerous treasures of art. From the Palazzo dei Prioriand the magnificent Cathedral of Perugia to Assisi, the holy town of SaintFrancis, with its marvelous buildings, its basilicas, Roman temple, castle andthe frescoes by Giotto.

    VENICE TOUR

    Venice is the city of romance and passion,one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Marriages, funerals, police,fire brigades, and trades, are all focused in and around the water. In theextraordinary frame of the Gran Canal eyes dance from building to building. Oneof the closest things to a fairy tale, everything in Venice seem surreal: thesilence of its canals and walkways, the colors of the water and its lightreflected on the surrounding houses, the rhythm of life.

    ROME TOUR

    Rome is the "Eternal city",where 2500 years have passed and left their traces. It is the only place in theworld where you can see the temples and basilicas, the Coliseum, the Arcs ofTriumph, the Imperial Forums all together and mixed with all the otherhistorical periods of art: from Byzantine to Romanesque, from Gothic toRenaissance and Baroque. Rome is also capital of two countries, Italy and VaticanState whose museums are rich with masterpieces painted by Raphael andMichelangelo.

    SOVANA &PITIGLIANO TOUR

    Pitigliano is not only a unique place butis also one of the most suggestive of all Tuscany, built on a spectacular slopeand overwhelming the valley below with its aqueduct and buildings lying on theedge.

    Sovana is a mystic town with buildingsthat look like miniatures. In its surrounding area some of the most amazingEtruscan tombs can be found and visited.

    THE MARBLE MINES OF CARRARA & THETUSCAN RIVIERA TOUR

    The Apuanian Alps are home to a famoussource of marble, where artists went to get the material for their mostexquisite art works. On approach, one is struck by a vision of white cappedpeaks, the effect given by the light colored marble. A visit is also made tothe home and museum where Puccini wrote most of his famous arias -Turandot,Boheme, Madame Butterfly and a promenade along the sea at Viareggio, a resorttown from the turn of the century with Art Deco and Belle Epoque buildings.

    PRATO &PISTOIA TOUR

    Pistoia is home to buildings and churchesfrom several art periods and the most beautiful of Pisano's pulpits, whoseextremely accurate and realistic bas-reliefs anticipated the perfection of theRenaissance statues.

    On the way back a stop in Prato to see theCathedral and its marvelous external pulpit created by Donatello.

    FLORENCE TOUR

    The beauties of Florence, from theCathedral to the Baptistery, from Giotto's Bell Tower to Santa Croce and SantaMaria Novella, from the Ponte Vecchio to the Pitti Palace, from the Boboligardens to the Basilica of San Miniato and Piazzale Michelangelo are importanttestimonies to the strength and value of the city's history, and each and everyone have contributed to making Florence one of the most beautiful cities in theworld.

    The schools classrooms are equippedwithan audio-visual system, stereo-recorders to register lessons, airconditioningand a computer for grammar practice. Also, students can connect toInternet atthe students' computer or wireless with their laptop.

    The one-to-one courses may start and finish on any dayrequested.

    For courses with a personalized schedule (e.g. 2-3hours per day;lessons only on 2-3 days per week, etc.), the prices arecalculatedmathematically.

    On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays as well as forlessons after 6pm asupplement of 10% is applied. Please note that allsupplements/discounts areapplied only on the rate of the hours (coursesincluding lunch/dinner).

      For a 4-11 week course, the weekly rate isdiscounted 10%

    ATTENTION

    Atour school each lessonhour lasts 60 minutes. In many other schools the lessonhour lasts 45 or 50minutes and the prices of their courses, apparently lower,are actually higherof 25% (or 20%) of those written on their brochure.
