  • The school, specialising in teaching the Italianlanguage and culture to foreigners, guarantees the students a learningexperience of the highest quality.

    The school's decision to work with only smallgroups ensures that each participant has the opportunity to develop and improvehis/her linguistic skills. Access to each course therefore requires an entranceexam in order to form classes of a suitable level for all participants.

    The lessons are entrusted to energetic andqualified native language teachers by means of direct pedagogic methods and theuse ofvarious teaching materials (books, newspaper, cassettes, films, music,etc.) which help the students to improve their communicative and cultural skills.The numerous recreational activities organized by the school, in collaborationwith the professionals of the area, allow the student to get into contact withthe local people and to get to know the cultural and artistic richness of thecity and the province. The Abbey Cards offer, moreover, privileges to theirholders,allowing them to enjoy various discounted services (from restaurants togymnasiums) offered by participating corporations.

    For students who have a love of food, specialprogrammes for the discovery of Piedmontese cuisine and culinary specialtiescan be arranged. 

  • Our standard courses of Italian language and culture are organized for all levels (beginner, intermediate and advanced) and are established according to the needs of students. They vary in both intensity and duration. 

    The group courses start on each Monday of the month, with the exception of those for absolute beginners, which will commence on the first Monday of the month. On request, and for an additional fee, the school can organise culinary workshops as well as guided tours of some of the city's most important monuments. Students (Polytechnic, Erasmus, IED, etc.) from any European higher education institution, upon presentation of their matriculation documents, will qualify for discounts ranging from 5% to 20% according to the type of course they choose.

     

    INTENSIVE GROUP COURSES

    Composed of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 students, the courses are suitable for students who desire to learn language in a dynamic and fun environment. 

    They allow the achievement of linguistic skills adapted to the level being taught: grammar structures, extension of vocabulary, learning and improvementof pronunciation, conversation, comprehension, reading and writing.

    The minimum duration of the courses is 1 week with attendance from 15 to 20 hours of lessons per week, and the courses can be extended to more than one week. 

     

    COURSES FOR FOREIGNERS WHO LIVE AND STUDY IN TURIN

    Composed of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 students, the courses are suitable for people who expect to remain in Turin for at least a semester.

    These courses expect two or three weekly attendances of 2 hours for a minimum of 30 hours. 

    This typology allows the achievement of linguistic skills adapted to the level being taught at highly competitive prices.

     

    MINI GROUPS

    Composed of 3-4 students, these courses unite the dynamism of a group course with the flexibility of a small group. They are ideal for students with specific attendance needs and timetables. They allow the achievement of linguistic skills adapted to the level taught more intensively.

    The minimum duration of the courses is 1 week with attendance from 15 to 20 hours of lessons per week, and the courses can be extended to more than one week.

     

    SEMI-INDIVIDUAL COURSES

    Composed of 2 students, the courses unite the accuracy and the flexibilityof a one-to-one course with greater interactivity.

    All levels of knowledge of the Italian language, composed of 20 hours,(elementary, intermediate, advanced, conversation, business Italian, etc.) are also provided for those who desire a more personalised programme.

    This typology of course can also be organized at any time of year,either with intensive programmes or according to the timetable proposed by the participants.

     

    INDIVIDUAL LESSONS

    For people who desire to learn Italian with a fully personalised programme, these individual lessons are ideal for a student who wants to fulfill his/her professional requirements. These courses of at least 20 hours cater for all levels of Italian language knowledge (elementary, intermediate,advanced, conversation, business Italian, etc.).

    The flexibility of this typology of course enables the school to organize programmes at any time of year, either intensively (on a daily basis) or according to the time table proposed by the students.

     

    COURSES FOR ASIANS

    On demand, they can be organized according to all the afore mentioned typologies. They are characterized by programmes based on specially designed teaching methodologies, which take into consideration the phonetic andsyntactic diversity of non-European languages, and by staff who are familiar with the main Asian languages.

     

    COURSES FOR CHILDREN

    Composed of a maximum of 8 students, the courses are established for children between 5 and 13 years old. These courses offer the basic learning ofthe language by means of games adapted to the age of the participants. The lessons, with a duration of 90 minutes each, can be arranged on a daily basis or be organized according to a timetable proposed by the parents.

     

    SUMMER COURSES

    Composed of a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 students, the courses are ideal for students who intend to learn the Italian language during summer vacation (from June to August). Intensive courses of 20 hours/week, include afternoon activities and excursions to discover the local area at the end ofthe week. The minimum duration of the courses is 2 weeks, which can be extended on request.

     

    PREPARATORY COURSES FOR THE CILS AND CELI EXAMS

    The CILS exams, run by the Siena University for Foreigners, are held inJune and December at accredited institutions both in Italy and abroad, whilethe CELI exams, run by the Perugia University for Foreigners, are held in three yearly sessions (in spring, summer and autumn). The relevant preparatory courses are organised during the months prior to the exams themselves, and are entrusted to teachers who are qualified CELI or CILS examiners. The courses focus on exam simulation and are organised according to the individual,semi-individual and mini-group formulas, with the aim of maximising effectiveness and in order to provide the best possible service to our students.

  • HOSPITALITY

    Theaccommodation of students is related to the typology of the course. 

    The school offers students the service of an intermediary to help them findhotels, bed&breakfasts, self-catering accommodation and apartments. Onrequest, accommodation can be found with families carefully selected by theschool.

    Prices depend on the choice of the student (category of the hotel, typology ofthe rooms, etc.) and on the duration of the stay. 

  • At abbeySCHOOL CiaoItaly, it is possible to attend preparatory courses for the CILS exams, run by the Siena University for Foreigners, and for the CELI exams, run by the Perugia University for Foreigners.
    They are officially recognised qualifications that certify the holder's level of communicative skills in Italian as a foreign language. The exam may be taken by any foreign student who intends to certify his/her command of the Italian language for study and/or work reasons.

    Based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, proposed by the European Council, these exams foresee the certification of various levels of ability in the Italian language through the testing of listening and reading skills and the analysis of communicative structures in written and oral production.

    The European Reference Framework has established the general standards for European Union language skills, dividing them into three levels: basic speaker, independent speaker and proficient speaker. Each of these levels comprises two sub-levels as indicated in the following table.

  • The institution is a member of the ASILS, the AIL and Eduitalia, and has also been recognised by CSNLund-Sweden.
